π Racial Traits.

So its been a while since I have graced this lonely little forgotten corner of the web with my mindless rambling and I felt it was about time I gave a little update. These status reports serve a few purposes 1st and foremost as sort of public record to motivate me and keep me plugging away. 2nd so that if I do loose my world-building records I do have some form, however minimal, of record to remind me of the direction I was working before I had whatever screw up hit. 3rd. . . well just on the off chance any of my few friends ever stumble across this place it shall give them fuel to heckle me. Now onto the Update. . .

Racial Traits: To be honest it was the 1st thing to pop into my tired overslept mind when considering a title for this post. In the world I am currently building there are a number of different non-human or extra-human beings. While the bulk of the planetary populace will be human, at least on the surface, there will be a number of non-humans or beings who have evolved extra-human. Among these different non-human beings will be Werewolves, Vampires (They will NOT SPARKLE! ), Demons, Devil/Angels, Fae, Lich/ Clockworks, Ferals and others To Be Determined (TBD). Each with their own racial traits.

Quick breakdown of racial traits. Vampires are only 2000ish years old. Their origins dating to around the accepted biblical crucifixion of the Christian Christ. Within the Vampire community there are a number of divergent racial traits based on the western zodiac. I.E. 12 groups split into 4 branches around the ancient philosophical ideology of how the universe is constructed. In other words the elemental building blocks or "signs", Earth, Air, Fire and Water. There is of course internal strife and a 13th outcast group based on the modern 13th "sign" of the western zodiac which goes against the "traditional" 12 signs of the zodiac. Another trait of these vampires is that they structure their society along the mid-evil court hierarchy and the pre-French Revolution concept of the "Three Estates". While the bulk of these vampires are human in appearance there are a number of species within the 12 groups that are distinctly non-human in appearance.

Werewolves: I have yet to really work much on my concept of werewolves other than other than to decide that their origin will be distinctly based upon Norse Mythology.

Fae: As with the Werewolves I have yet to devote any real effort to my interpretation of the Fae other than to start reading Yeats. I have determined to take a more traditionalist approach to the Fae. I do however intend to blend or consolidate as many of the Celtic Mythos as possible. ( Irish, Scot and Welsh )

Demons: Demons have been determined to be Non-Corporeal until they have been ritualistically inserted into a sacrificial vessel of appropriate stature. Further a Demon can not jump from host to host and may not enter the corporeal plane uninvited. Once a Demon has made a sacrificial vessel its host that host becomes its form threw its consumption. Demons are the agents of Chaos and not via necessity evil. Demons also have their own strata of society and evolution within their own plane.

Devils: I have yet to truly codify my concepts of Devils. That said the basic concept is that they are agents of Order and Law. Not to put to fine a point on it Devils are Angels. I am still working on it however.

Liches & Clockworks: Liches & Clockworks are completely original concepts to my little world. Now I know Liches and Clockworks have been done before in their own right however my versions are a completely new twist retaining only the names. Both Liches & Clockworks as well as a 3rd Group to be named all derive from the same source. This source is Cain. The brass tax is basically that the Liches are the pure-blooded children of Cain who have rotting skin. The Clockworks are the descendants of Cain who intermarried with the Children of Seth and suffered an affliction even worse than the Liches so transferred their beings into clockwork bodies. The 3rd unnamed faction will have worked out some manner of attempting to avoid the affliction of the 1st 2 factions, generally through rituals, yet will suffer by loosing much of their power.

Ferals: An original concept of mine. Imagine if you will a blending of Vampires, Werewolves and Fae that assumes a human form, a Giant Liger (Hybrid Lion and Tiger mix breed) form and a 3rd hybrid anthropomorphic form. A being of pure violence and rage packed into the ultimate apex predator. I already have a basic idea for the back story/ origin however the more I read it the more I dislike it and feel it needs tweaking.

These are just some of the Races and their traits I am working on for my little endeavor. it is my hope that once I finish with plausible, for a fantasy work of fiction, races that they will help to blend the world around them into something believable. Once the individual races are created I need to work on the politics within each species and than on the inter-species politics. I am hoping that by working on the individual origins and histories I can find a way to mesh them harmoniously and than the history with a coherent world history.
