Another Day Another Plotline

So I haven't actually written anything yet. I know I feel like a failure on the one hand. Yet on the other hand I have developed my world to such an extent that it is such a rich and vibrant place that if I somehow could I would transport myself there and move there and never look back. Vampires, werewolves, demons, ghosts and flesh eating monsters that lurk in the shadows and all! However I have also outlined many possible scenes that will probably appear in the book I am "working" on as well as a scene or two set in the same fictitious universe.

I have also taken to writing down every scrap of idea for stories, plots and possible book themes that come to me at every random moment of the day or night. Many of these ideas occur in my convoluted universe and as such have given me much mental fodder for a possible series of books. Others however are completely different and as such have led me down a path that I have never considered before. I now have 2 Works In Progress. My Original WIP that I am struggling to figure at least the rough outline from Point A to Point B and a completely new WIP set in the same universe that at least in my mind I can clearly see the path from start to finish.

The only problem with WIP2 is that while I can see it in its near entirety I do not find it as tantalizing as the original WIP that has dead-ended. However that may just be me being stubborn. Perhaps I should just begin to write them both in concert and let what happens happen. Who knows maybe WIP1 will not work out and WIP2 will be the book people will want to read. I guess only time will tell.

No More Pie

Thats right no more goofy ass Pie symbol!

It's my blog and I'll change the rules if I want to. Anyways of late I have been hanging out on sffchronicles as I have been devoting more of my time and mental resources to writing. I have decided that school and family aside my one and only focus in life is to finish and publish at least one book. As such I introduce to you the working title of my current Work In Progress and the Written Universe I have been authoring. Granted these names are subject to change over the course of time, especially when finished and by some divine grace published, though until such a time I present to you. . .

The WIP Series Title: True Sight

A Modern/Contemporary Fantasy World analog to our own. While many things are the same the world diverged at a couple of points in the 1920s and 1950s resulting in a world where the Supernatural walks openly side by side in an uneasy and often violently conflicted armistice.

The WIP Book 1 Title: Fires of Creation

Yeah not going to tell you anything about this just yet. If someone is actually reading this Blog well its much more fun to keep you waiting!

Title Character: Cassandra O'Connor (A.K.A. Cassie)

A young college freshmen of impeccable breeding who just happens to have a few dark secrets. Will she be able to deal with her own deep conflicted past and being suddenly thrust into the darkest depths of a supernatural power struggle? A power struggle that spans the width and breadth of time itself and involves the entire planet and more than one preternatural species.

I will say this though, despite the WIP's main character and many of it's inherent themes my work is definitely not aimed at the Youth market. While I have read a few of the "YA" books out today and I do enjoy these books and have nothing but respect for the genre I feel that it would restrict me. I plan to write for the more adult crowd and while I do not think I am in anyway going to produce the next great Fantasy Epic I do have high hopes for my work. I at least believe that my works will be published and hope that someone will some day enjoy it.

π Observations

So today following a test in US History Since 1877 I decided to take a little time and eat a snack at the Union. While there I fell back into an old hobby of mine that I like to call "People Watching", now this is not some sick and twisted excuse to stare at girls tits & asses, this is just a fun little pass the time exorcise in trying to figure out who is who and what they are thinking. Well today I decided to modify my little hobby. Today I attempted to use the time as research.

As I hope to write a book in a modern setting and at least partially placed in University at some point I felt it needful to see how the typical University student dresses, acts, interacts, so on and so forth in one of their most common settings. So there I sat just eating my chicken fingers with ranch dressing and watching them. I made no effort to hide my observation and in point of fact at times I openly stared directly at small groups for long times without redirecting my gaze. I did this on purpose to test a new born hypothesis.

My hypothesis is this, College students in a public setting at a University are easy PREY! In a fantasy world such as I am crafting for my book any of the myriad creatures such as a Vampire, Werewolf, Feral, Fae or any of the less savory and unnamed nasties would find a buffet. Only one girl noticed my gaze and she did not even notify her table. Not one of the other 3 girls looked over at my table. Where I a boggart they would be easy pickings.

Other observations I have where of a sea of Purple as this is the schools main color. Hoodies pervaded style wise on both male and females given the time of year as did jeans. When not wearing jeans tight or loose sweat pants seemed to be the norm on females with skin to fairly tight edging out the loose. Males tended toward looser jeans. T-shirts as always where everywhere.

π Post from a recluse

Before I post anything related to my endeavors in writing I just want to say that the situation in Japan is truly a frightening and sad thing. Wracked by earthquakes and tsunami, the loss of life climbing and with the threat of critical reactor shut down they are having a truly trying time at the moment. My heart and thoughts go out to them. They truly do have my sympathies.

Those who do not have my sympathies and who have my disgust are the bigoted assholes here in my own country. Across the internet you see these cock-munching assholes who have nothing better to do than spew hate filled vitriol about "Karma being a bitch" and "Remember Pearl Harbor" and the like. It makes me sick! Yes in WW2 Imperial Japan did bomb Pearl Harbor thus bringing America into the war. However America did drop not one but 2 Atomic Bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end the war. The death toll at Pearl Harbor 2350. The Death toll at Hiroshima and Nagasaki are estimated at 90,000 - 166,000! So to all those hate filled bigoted assholes who keep screaming about "Pearl Harbor" on the internet in response to the tragedy in Japan and laughing about the climbing death toll saying it is "Karma" should keep in mind when they spew their venom that in the end we killed a shit ton more civilians. That our great nation is to date the only country to date to ever actively deploy nuclear weapons in a war.  That We Americans unleashed true hell on earth to more quickly end the Pacific War, beat the Germans to the punch in development, show Russia our might and display Americas scientific advances. So if you are going to callously sneer at another while toting the concept of "Karma" be careful you don't find yourself fucked in the ass while bound to the cycle of Samsara.

π OK! Now that I have got the venting out of my system on to the writing. I know it has been a while since I posted posted anything about what I have been working on and I do not apologize. I figure no one is reading this anyways so I am not in much of a hurry to post up. In the time since my last post and this one I have been fairly busy. I have fleshed out the background of the world in so far that I have all the races save one completed. The one straggler recently was inspired while writing the background for a character who looks to be the main protagonist of the book/series. Yes I mention a possible series, this is because I finally after much struggle came up with a few plot ideas. After working out the 1st plot idea 3 more sort of flowed from the 1st and they all kind of inter-relate. Since there is no way that all plot points could fit into a single story as they are to broad and diverse I believe it best to separate them out if possible. That and frankly I do not feel I have the skill to pull of combining all these ideas into a single a volume.

π Racial Traits.

So its been a while since I have graced this lonely little forgotten corner of the web with my mindless rambling and I felt it was about time I gave a little update. These status reports serve a few purposes 1st and foremost as sort of public record to motivate me and keep me plugging away. 2nd so that if I do loose my world-building records I do have some form, however minimal, of record to remind me of the direction I was working before I had whatever screw up hit. 3rd. . . well just on the off chance any of my few friends ever stumble across this place it shall give them fuel to heckle me. Now onto the Update. . .

Racial Traits: To be honest it was the 1st thing to pop into my tired overslept mind when considering a title for this post. In the world I am currently building there are a number of different non-human or extra-human beings. While the bulk of the planetary populace will be human, at least on the surface, there will be a number of non-humans or beings who have evolved extra-human. Among these different non-human beings will be Werewolves, Vampires (They will NOT SPARKLE! ), Demons, Devil/Angels, Fae, Lich/ Clockworks, Ferals and others To Be Determined (TBD). Each with their own racial traits.

Quick breakdown of racial traits. Vampires are only 2000ish years old. Their origins dating to around the accepted biblical crucifixion of the Christian Christ. Within the Vampire community there are a number of divergent racial traits based on the western zodiac. I.E. 12 groups split into 4 branches around the ancient philosophical ideology of how the universe is constructed. In other words the elemental building blocks or "signs", Earth, Air, Fire and Water. There is of course internal strife and a 13th outcast group based on the modern 13th "sign" of the western zodiac which goes against the "traditional" 12 signs of the zodiac. Another trait of these vampires is that they structure their society along the mid-evil court hierarchy and the pre-French Revolution concept of the "Three Estates". While the bulk of these vampires are human in appearance there are a number of species within the 12 groups that are distinctly non-human in appearance.

Werewolves: I have yet to really work much on my concept of werewolves other than other than to decide that their origin will be distinctly based upon Norse Mythology.

Fae: As with the Werewolves I have yet to devote any real effort to my interpretation of the Fae other than to start reading Yeats. I have determined to take a more traditionalist approach to the Fae. I do however intend to blend or consolidate as many of the Celtic Mythos as possible. ( Irish, Scot and Welsh )

Demons: Demons have been determined to be Non-Corporeal until they have been ritualistically inserted into a sacrificial vessel of appropriate stature. Further a Demon can not jump from host to host and may not enter the corporeal plane uninvited. Once a Demon has made a sacrificial vessel its host that host becomes its form threw its consumption. Demons are the agents of Chaos and not via necessity evil. Demons also have their own strata of society and evolution within their own plane.

Devils: I have yet to truly codify my concepts of Devils. That said the basic concept is that they are agents of Order and Law. Not to put to fine a point on it Devils are Angels. I am still working on it however.

Liches & Clockworks: Liches & Clockworks are completely original concepts to my little world. Now I know Liches and Clockworks have been done before in their own right however my versions are a completely new twist retaining only the names. Both Liches & Clockworks as well as a 3rd Group to be named all derive from the same source. This source is Cain. The brass tax is basically that the Liches are the pure-blooded children of Cain who have rotting skin. The Clockworks are the descendants of Cain who intermarried with the Children of Seth and suffered an affliction even worse than the Liches so transferred their beings into clockwork bodies. The 3rd unnamed faction will have worked out some manner of attempting to avoid the affliction of the 1st 2 factions, generally through rituals, yet will suffer by loosing much of their power.

Ferals: An original concept of mine. Imagine if you will a blending of Vampires, Werewolves and Fae that assumes a human form, a Giant Liger (Hybrid Lion and Tiger mix breed) form and a 3rd hybrid anthropomorphic form. A being of pure violence and rage packed into the ultimate apex predator. I already have a basic idea for the back story/ origin however the more I read it the more I dislike it and feel it needs tweaking.

These are just some of the Races and their traits I am working on for my little endeavor. it is my hope that once I finish with plausible, for a fantasy work of fiction, races that they will help to blend the world around them into something believable. Once the individual races are created I need to work on the politics within each species and than on the inter-species politics. I am hoping that by working on the individual origins and histories I can find a way to mesh them harmoniously and than the history with a coherent world history.

π Vampires don't Sparkle!

That's right I said it Vampires DO NOT SPARKLE!

There I said it. Regardless of the latest fad or tween/ teen/ cougar series of novels, movies and associated mass marketing glut that has been force fed to an estrogen drenched gaggle of willing lemmings. Up till "Toilet", as my eldest 10 year old daughter likes to call it, vampires did not sparkle in the sunlight. NO they turned to ash, burnt up, rotted or where merely weakened or in some cases shown to be "what they truly are". However being "shown for what they truly are" has never to my knowledge, believe me I have looked, meant that they have sparkled  like some sort of gadfly at a gay pride parade!

One who stumbling upon this lonely little insignificant blog in the back of the internet may wonder what my deal is and why now so late in the game I am bitching about sparkly poofter emo vampires. They would have a point to wonder. I mean really what do I care? Well other than long held traditionalist view points regarding blood suckers that is.No not women, leeches and lawyers! Vampires, Duh. Well the reason is simple I have previously stated I am going to start working toward writing a book of my own and one of the races in this little fantasy will be, if you haven't guessed by now you must be dense enough to believe in sparkly little cry babies, vampires. Granted my own not exactly traditional take on vampires but more realistic vampires none the less!

Sneak Peek: My lovely little blood suckers will have a rich history going back to the crucifixion. Their origin will be intimately tied to that singular event in fact. Further there will be 12 houses main houses or bloodlines and each bloodline house will spawn a number of smaller courts through out the world. Each of these Houses will be tied to one of the traditional western zodiac signs and derive a particular grouping of stereotypes that govern them and individual abilities. These 12 Houses will further be broken down into the old French ideal of the Three Estates for purposes of internal hierarchy. This hierarchy will also follow a 12 year cycle as dictated by the eastern zodiac. They will not sparkle! Some will burn up in the light of the sun. Some will rot and decay and others shall remain remarkably unaffected.

Vampires shall not be the only creature race I intend to bring to the table but more on that in a later post.
